1. Installation
1.1 Selecting a position for the Water Filter
The HCP water filter system is designed to be free standing on a sink unit, or adjacent counter top.
N.B. FOR COLD WATER USE ONLY
1.2 Connecting Pipework and Fittings
Screw the diverter valve (4) to the cold water tap or mixer tap if a male thread is visible. If not, an approved adapter will be required to convert to the relevant threads.
1.3 Fitting the Ceramic Element
Unscrew the filter housing body (1) from the head (3). Remove the ceramic filter cartridge (8) from its protective sleeve. Place the sealing washer (9) onto the threaded nipple and screw into the head (3) until washer resistance is felt.
Do not overtighten. Moisten the O-ring (2) then place it into the groove in the body (1) and screw the threaded body (1) into the head (3). Hand-tighten only.
2. Conditioning the Water Filter
The water filter unit should now be ready for the first filling with water. To avoid any problems caused by air locks in the filter housing, the unit should be held upside down in the kitchen sink. Turn on the cold water tap partially, then operate the knob on the diverter valve (4) to allow water to slowly fill the filter unit for the first time. It will take time for water to appear through the outlet arm (5). Allow the water to run to waste for a minimum of 10 minutes. When water first comes out, it is normal for some grey dust to be flushed from the filter. Allow the filter to stand for 24 hours to condition the filter to the source water and then flush water through it for a further 10 minutes to waste. After carrying out this procedure, Your HCP water filter is now ready for use.
During use, contaminants filtered from the water may build up on the outer surface of the ceramic cartridge and cause a reduction of flow through the unit. The ceramic filter cartridge will, therefore need cleaning to restore the flow. Cleaning frequency will be dependent upon the condition of the incoming water.
3. Servicing your HCP water FilterCleaning, removal and replacement of the ceramic water filter cartridge (8) is carried out as follows:
With the cold water tap turned off, hold the water filter unit upside- down over the sink unit. Unscrew the body (1), which will be full of water, from the lid (3). The ceramic filter cartridge (8) can now be unscrewed from the head (3) and cleaned in accordance with operating and exchange instructions, or replaced as described in 1.3.
A cartridge that has reached the end of its life would be indicated by a reduction in the quality of the filtered water with respect to taste. The cartridge should be replaced in accordance with the rated service capacity, which would typically give a period of six months usage.
Cleaning/Sterilizing the water filter housing:
To clean or sterilize the water filter housing, the following should be avoided:
A. Strong oxidizing agents such as bleach or Milton solution.
B. all strongly acidic materials including some descalents.
c. strongly alkaline materials.
After a new filter cartridge (8) has been reinstalled, recondition the filter as described in 2.0.
It is important to wash your hands thoroughly after servicing the water filter.
